small driver for portable speakers

hi,

perhaps I am not the first person asking - but did not find anything through searching:

does anybody got an idea or recommendation for some idea for a reasonable full range speaker or construction plans to build some kind of portable speakers (portable as in put in your laptop bag)?

Several of the Tang Band units should suit this application, although the only ones I have any experiences with are the popular W3-871S 3" and W4-1337SA 4", which are both well-known and recommended. It appears as though the W3-871S has changed to W3-871SC, but I'm unaware of the specific changes made.

If you want any "bass" response whatsoever in the smallest enclosure possible, a Tang Band or Aura might be a better choice. However, any of the Fostex drivers will be much more sensitive though, and be able to play at fairly high volume levels with just a few watts...

That sounds very interesting! Thanks a lot. Using effective drivers make a much easier choice for the amplifier (perhaps even some strong headphone amps? - nice dual purpose).

Maybe. Honestly, I don't have any experience whatsoever with Fostex drivers. But yeah, if lack of power is a big concern, you probably won't find much better than those Fostex drivers listed above. f you're interested in any of the other drivers listed above, you should probably look into something like these for amplification, listed below. With the Fostex drivers, it'd provide more than adqueate power. I wouldn't be surprised if you were well aware of these little amps, or at least seen them before, but just incase... You can run it off of an AC power supply (although I can't remember which country you're in before I clicked the reply button, and what you guys use), or you can use 8 AA batteries. You might be able to find them a bit cheaper. I remember buying the first generation T-Amp over a year ago or longer for like $10-$15 total on eBay. However, I ended up taking it apart to modify it, ended up putting it off, left the parts laying around, then was forced to move and lost some of the parts, then threw the rest in the trash, lol. If I wouldn't have taken it apart and lost the guts though, it would have definitely been worth the money spent..

Well, I'm just starting a simple fullrange build for a set of tiny computer speakers, and I found that there simply isn't a small enough design that sounds good using a 3" woofer. The best I've seen was Zaph's B3s (http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker18.html) but the baffle was 5"x9" and I needed something closer to 3"x3". I've settled on using a pair of Aura NSW2s, and designed a compact box that matches the Vas on the spec sheet. http://www.aurasound.com/public/speakercomponents/body.html

I'm using these in a very quiet setting (played at sub 60dB), so I think I'll be just fine. I haven't seen this speaker used much anywhere, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Any comments are welcome.

I made small speakers with fe87e and a peerless passive radiator.
i like how they sound but I have no test equipment. not a lot of sub bass but musical instruments sound very good.
