I reckon its something German, maybe made during war, that made it to the Eastern Bloc also, via DDR later, hence recognized in a Latvian ship. Can it be that SABA or others were making those for Hitler (Gothic, but SABA like stamp), for his high command and ships?

It looks the same for its magnet assembly. Did you get yours out of its cover so to compare with the Ebay one and see if it is some Philips OEM, branded in Gothic logo?...Hey maybe it is Cyrillic lettering after all?
