Default Next project - TQWT for EV SP12b

Since my Karlson pipe cabinet for these sucked (no bass bellow 150,but had great imaging and eff), I want to build a TQWT. I used the calculator to deturmin dimentions and need tips for dampling / stuffing. I'm going to use 3/4 birch, unless someone thinks MDF is better.

Any tips?

Thanks
Bob

Which calculator? If it's the Rutter excel sheet based on Weems's articles, you might want to hang fire as you won't get an optimised enclosure out of it. Birch ply is the stuff to use, unless you're feeling in a luxurious mood & can afford apple ply.

The driver specs don't really suit a resonant cabinet IMO -Q & Vas are too high. Unfortunately my main PC is currently out of comission while some building work is going on in the house so I can't access most of my software properly. FWIW though, I suspect a sealed or aperiodic box is probably the best bet for these untis without going to a very large box. Attached is a rough sim. of the response you can expect from the aforementioned TQWT though.

I'm going to go with the folded horn made from 3/4" birch, unless someone has a better cabinet design for these....Help is requested.

Thanks

I calc'd a BIB, but at ~71.5 ft^3, I guess it's not a contender........

Hmm, even a simple max flat impedance TL weighs in at a hefty ~13 ft^3.........

Default I just ran WinIS

Maybe people are right and I should do a Open baffle.
Seems they need room to breath.

Using the WINIS software i came up with a 24^box 37 wide 58 high and 22 deep and that vented, Sealed is even bigger...BUt they show great flat response down to 30hz

I wonder what they made these drivers for. I know with the Corner Carlso cabinets they imaged and had gret midrange, just no bass.....Maybe I should also try a regular Karlson cab
