I saw the latest AudioXpress in the store and the cover leaf had an
ad for a dac kit and some small speakers geared for a computer setup.

Can someone tell the company name (which I've forgotten) and something about the setup and components for a computer rig?

Company name was something like DIYexpress but I found nothing that way.

I dont read Audio express, but I do use a media PC in my main rig. I bought the DDDAC1543MKII Kit from Doede. Its USB linked and sounds amazing to my ears.

You still have to find an amp and speakers, but hey... your here and posting. You should be able to find these no probs...

Should be no issue to put them in the same box as an Amp.

Blair...

Ps You might find more sugestions in the digital section...

I am just not much good searches. Maybe there is a specialty spot for these... somewhere to get the background and who supplies what?

Also I've never done kits since heathkit and the idea gives me the willys to this day not being experienced in electronics or schematic reading. A board with a box of parts would freak me out. :-)

At the same time, I know it's the only way i could afford to build.

May be this is the site:

http://www.audioworkshop.com.hk/index_en.htm

" The AW-D3 is a USB audio device (Sound Card) using the Burr-brown PCM2706 chip with a built-in I2S Bus DAC using a Philips TDA1543.
With both optical and coaxial SPDIF out, headphone out and analog out."

If its the reading of the schematic rather than the soldering that bothers you, have a look at twistedpear audio. They offer Amps, Dacs and volume controllers, in an intelligently prepared lineup of goods. They are about to produce a usb stage for their DAC Kit.

I bought the kookaburra digital volume control kit from them. Easy? Their kits are so well labelled, it perhaps took the fun out of building the kits. The components are supplied with labels attached, the pcb is screen printed with the corresponding labels.

The Kookaburra is an excellent product, and those that have tried their other products al seem very happy.

All you would need after that is a set of speakers.
