Default Does Audax AP080G0 need augmentation?

Hi All-

A while ago I bought a pair of Audax AP080G0 "full range" drivers from Madisound. I was going to build a set of desk speakers with them along with a "desk sized" intergrated GC.

My quick questions are:

1. Are they truly FR enough not to need some type of tweeter?
2. What is the suggested box type and size?

There will most likely be a pwred sub accompanying but I would like them to be able to play on their own if required.

I have a pair of these if needed. Both with and without flanges.

Scroll to the bottom:

Any information would be appreciated... This is my fist step in trying a FR driver.. Eventually (when I have space to manufacture) I will try building a pair of the Fonkens for a true experience with FR speakers.

They should do... the ApexJr ribbon will add a bit of sparkle to the top if you find you need it,,, probably no more than a cap XO of 1-1.5 uF.

Do you have some number data so we can run some sims?

Sorry for the delay. Apparently I bought thse a while ago since all the data was on an OLD pc. When I say old, I mean 2 pc's ago. I had to dig out the PC from the garage to get the data off of it.. I can see I need a NAS soon.

Anyway, here is the PDF I found when I bought the drivers..

No go, even zipped the PDF is too large a file...

This wants to be in a sealed or aperiodic box or an open baffle....

I'd do an aperiodic box as large as possible (minimum 2 litres). The little bump will give the illusion of some bass.

Forget any reflex enclosure

An OB would need a specific width but could be max flat. Scott?

2 liters might be large for a desk-top speaker.. For me at least, I don't have the corner office with the 4x8 ft desk .

However I will build them just to see if I like the FR sound... I've always had 2 ways.. B&W 805 Matrix..

So if size doesn't matter (yeah right! try to tell HER that) what would be the suggestions?

It's too small to be used as a floor stander, so a large bookshelf?

Remember it has to be an easy box as my tools and space are VERY constrained at the moment.

Rectangular sealed box 6w x 10t x 8d external? Sounds shoe box sized. :-)

That is about right for 4.5 litres .... pretty close to the size of the mFonken (miniFonken). The µFonken (microFonken is 2 litres net and will be ~5x8x6 (1/2" material))

Id you just want to get a quick feel for the driver, build 2 mini OBs as big as your space for them will allow...

Get them to help (think of all the speaker projects you will get away with if you can addict the kids
