the prob is its a shared account and i don´t have the ISP data, and i would need to install some software for the connection to the ISP. I would need to ask for the data and bypass would only be possible temporarily else the others kill me.

Well, this could be the answer.
Lower the MTU to a value that gives a normal readout,
without timeouts.
Go to Start->Run type Cmd --> OK
Type ipconfig --> Enter
Now you will see the something similar to this:
Ethernet adapter LAN-verbinding:

Verbindingsspecifiek DNS-achtervoegsel:
IP-adres . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .: 192.168.0.1
Subnetmask . . . . . . . . . . . . . .: 255.255.255.0
Standaardgateway . . . . . . . . . . .:

PPP adapter Skynet:

Verbindingsspecifiek DNS-achtervoegsel:
IP-adres . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .: 80.200.40.56
Subnetmask . . . . . . . . . . . . . .: 255.255.255.255
Standaardgateway . . . . . . . . . . .: 80.200.40.56

Now type "ping 192.168.0.1 -f -l 1470 -t"
Increase the value of MTU until you get "Paket müsste fragmentiert werden, DF flag ist jedoch gesetzt".
The value just before the timeout is the one you want.
Could be 1450 as well, try and find it.
Example:

Pingen naar 192.168.0.1 met 1472 byte gegevens:

Antwoord van 192.168.0.1: bytes=1472 tijd<10 ms TTL=128
Antwoord van 192.168.0.1: bytes=1472 tijd<10 ms TTL=128
Antwoord van 192.168.0.1: bytes=1472 tijd<10 ms TTL=128
Antwoord van 192.168.0.1: bytes=1472 tijd<10 ms TTL=128

Ping-statistieken voor 192.168.0.1:
Pakketten: verzonden = 4, ontvangen = 4, verloren = 0 (0% verlies),
Retourtijd bij benadering in milliseconden:
Minimum = 0 ms, Maximum = 0 ms, Gemiddeld = 0 ms

This means 1472 works for me, 1473 not anymore.

Traceroute command:
Go to Start->Run type Cmd --> OK
Type Tracert www.diyaudio.com --> Enter
If the final ip address is 209.124.89.84 you should be able to reach this site. IMHO :)

I think Ipconfig returns 192.168.1.254
So you should "ping 192.168.1.254 -f -l 1412"

Now you're tracert is weird.
The route seems to go all the way just before the diyaudio server.
I guess this is something for the real guru's...Audiofreak? Where are you? :)

Here’s how to change the MTU in the registry:
As Billy says: Careful with that Axe, Eugene ;)

Basic:
Win2K/XP. Don’t know for Win98/Me or other systems.
Determine the correct MTU value with ping.
Go to Start->Run --> Type ‘Regedit’ --> Enter
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\
Several subkeys will appear.
Choose the one were you find your Ethernet card IPAddress: 192.168.x.x
On the right pane of the window, right click and choose New->DWORD-value.
Name it MTU.
Go to your windows calculator, set it in scientific mode and enter the correct MTU value.
Mine would be 1472
Now click on Hex. The calculator should return the Hex value of 1472 witch is 5C0.
Go back to regedit, double click on your newly created MTU key and enter the Hex value from the calculator.
Done!
Close regedit and restart the system.

Advanced for Till:
There is the possibility that you’ll need to change the routers MTU.
As I can’t find any Dutch or English info on your particular router I have no idea how to do it.
Google it and you’ll find some useful info in German.
Here’s how it’s done on a Linksys Router : http://www.dslreports.com/faq/7120

There’s more to come if this doesn’t help.

Good luck

/Hugo :)

We tried another computer behind same router and got also timeout connecting to diyaudio.

Sorry, I was half asleep when I typed that... try

"ping www.diyaudio.com -f -l 1412 -i 200 -w 10000"

and

"tracert www.diyaudio.com -w 10000"

and pls post the results.

Good question, we have to trust somebody don't we?
How do we know viruscanners are not viruses?
Do you have a particular program in mind?

Till
Is post #36 unmodified?
I'm thinking the problem is in the router.
You should be able to try without, find yourself another router or
upgrade the firmware.
At least that's what I can think of for the moment without getting too technical.

Hi,

I don´t have a router but still the same problem. Changing MTU to 5c0 didn´t help either. There could be a lot more people outside having trouble but if they don´t have acces to another computer we will never know!

Since all other (known to me ) websites funktion why should there be something wrong on our computers?
Some setting must be different with the new server musn´t it?
Isn´t it possible to have a look at the server settings?
