EBay links not working properly

Have you noticed that recently, a lot of ebay links quit working? This is stressful! Please remove the ebay rover affliction.

As a monetizing system, that's a Fail because we can't get to most of the ebay items when the links don't work and thus there would be rather a lack of purchasing. It is the self defeating marketing platform. Quite defective!

Test: Enter an ebay link into a post and post it. Hover the mouse over the link. Watch as the forum software renders www as rover for affiliate monetizing. That is the cause of the problem, but not the actual problem. The actual problem (and the only objection) is that it fails so frequently, resulting in broken links.

While discussing the power circuit and inductor coils of this little class D amplifier. . .
Code:
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1/?icep_item=&icep_vectorid=229466&icep_ff3=2&pub=5574894652&toolid=10001&campid=5336550170&customid=diyaudio01-20&ipn=psmain&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg
That does not reach E-bay item number 151092418624
The link was too badly damaged by rover's redirection.
After all, monetizing is just fine; but, Bad Links are not.
Too often, the redirector is a misdirector.
So, the redirector needs refixed. :D

In post #502,
there I reference an E-bay parallel TDA7293 board with a compact layout and a nice clean power circuit layout, for fresh sound (rather than the inductive ringing wonky tone of bad layout); however, since the link doesn't work people have been guessing as to which board to get for the project. And, weirdly, despite having provided photos, some people bought the wrong boards and got the expected dreadful tone of bad layout.
Would have been nice if that link worked to get the correct boards.
There's a lot of ebay links in that thread.
A lot of them were recently broken by Rover.

With some effort, it is possible to post working ebay links.
Code:
For example when I type this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190862927141
What you get is:
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1/?icep_item=190862927141&icep_vectorid=229466&icep_ff3=2&pub=5574894652&toolid=10001&campid=5336550170&customid=diyaudio01-20&ipn=psmain&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg
And here it is. Edit my post and see that I didn't enter anything rover in this link: 2pack TDA7293 Parallel 170W Mono Amplifier Board Kits 29 | eBay
These boards and this listing was requested of that vendor for the group project. The chips and caps were proofed for authenticity. It was field tested and indeed it was stress tested to 250 watts Audio signal (and survived) so that normal use at half as much should be quite successful.
But, hover the mouse over that and you see rover. In this case it is okay because I manually typed in a simplified link.
However, if the longer links are copyed and pasted (like normal people do instead of typing all that by hand) then the many but not all of the links fail.

Rover also completely blocks stock check.
For example, I'll make a link check stock for sure T-amplifiers
Code:
Copied and pasted:
http://stores.ebay.com/sure-hifi/_i.html?rt=nc&_nkw=TA2024&_sid=219174270&_sticky=1&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1
Edited alternative:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=sure+amplifier&_nkw=ta2024
But look what happens when I just post it.
Normal link:
Class-D audio amplifier board, TA2024 TK2050 TDA7498 TAS5630 IRS2092 items in sure-audio store on eBay!
Short link:
ta2024 | eBay
They get so badly damaged by rover that they don't work at all.
Please edit my post so you can view that I entered perfectly well working links.

Note that a stock check link is really important because when a vendor re-stocks, there is no guarantee of it being the same item number (item numbers expire) although the description and store don't vary. SO, if a certain store has tested authentic parts and you want your link to stand the test of time, then you post a stock check link (to a store search, not an item). Remember that non-moderators can't go back and update their links, and so the stock check link was the solution to keep documentation working properly. Those links all quit working recently due to rover redirection.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for reporting this. I am really sorry to have taken so long to reply - my laptop died and I'm a long way away from anywhere to get it repaired. I've now got a new one and will try to get to the bottom of this ASAP.

Before I say anything else, firstly, the rover re-writing of links should work flawlessly. It's meant to be a completely behind the scene thing that doesn't negatively affect any user of the site or the functionality of posting eBay links. If it doesn't work 100% flawlessly 100% of the time, it will be fixed. So thanks for posting this problem report.

Firstly, when I go to your post #502 above, it takes me to the exact same page as the short version and longer version of the links you have posted above (where you say "with a little effort, it is possible..."). If clicking the link your post #502 does not take you to the correct page, I am assuming it must be a browser thing - because it's working fine for me. Doubly weird because there is no longer any Javascript involved, it's all simple plain-Jane HTML on the page clear as day for everyone to see what's going on - eBay item 190862927141. So, if the link in your post is not working for you, please let me know what browser and OS you are using, and be double sure that the people you reported were having problems did not click on the link a few months ago when there WAS a problem (it was fixed a few weeks ago).

Ok, now let me go check the stock check thing...

Ah, weirdly some of what didn't work before have begun working intermittently.
However, Post #7 there http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/soli...ccessories-beginner-friendly.html#post2973384 has a whole lot of Rover. I can't hit edit on that post, so I have no way to find out if the links were damaged by Rover or died of natural causes. :)

P.S.
I am using Windows XP equipped with with Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE, all available. It also has VM/virtualization available for running several other operating systems.

I dropped the ball on this while travelling - I forgot about it till someone just reminded me. Not good enough.... sorry guys.

I believe that all these links should now work 100%. In that post #7 you reference, I think many of them have died natural causes.

If you are able to find any eBay links that do not work, please let me know.

I was trying to post a link to this in a recent thread, if you direct copy/paste the link it doesn't work as per,

Assembled Dale 23 Step Attenuator Volume Control 10K | eBay

While testing i managed to get it to work buy manually chopping it down to just "http://www.ebay.com/itm/270311271534" and then just posting that link as plain text into this message instead of posting it as a URL link. The forum s/w seems to see the http and auto convert it into a link which does work. Weird.
