How to quote previous posts?

I did a search and read the FAQ, but I could not find any instructions on how to quote previous posts (or parts of previous posts) to which I reply. There must be some kind of a shortcut, which automatically formats the italic (including the name of the poster) and bold print with the message text. How is this done? Perhaps it is obvious and I just don't see it?

Check the little quote button on the bottom right of each post you like to quote.
