Where has the "edit" function gone? I'm not too good at spotting typos when it's in the box, but they become obvious when displayed, so I've often needed the edit function.

Ok, this is now complete. If you have the ability to edit a post, you will see the edit button. Otherwise you will see the report button.

That is correct Schemat1c, because after 30 minutes you are not allowed to edit your posts.
