Perpetuum-Ebner PE66: To fix or not to fix...

Greetings,
I have a Perpetuum-Ebner PE 66 (inside an early '60s Schaub-Lorenz Ballerina 20) that has an idler wheel in wretched shape. I'm torn between making a new one or having one made vs. finding a way to amplify the signal from a modern turntable (which, naturally, would be kinder to vinyl than those older ones).
--This stereo console has a round, radial-pin style input for a tape machine (5-pin) and the 3-pin "in" for the supplied turntable unit.
I've seen the other postings regarding the idler wheel replacement options, but I'm still looking for suggestions.
Thank you.
