Ascendant Audio seems to be selling the Poly 6.5 Zaph listed as discontinued at the same impressive price of $35 each.
http://www.ascendantaudio.com/poly_6.5_page.html Considering the impressive performance of these drivers and Zaph's unusually good crossover design, I say that we all chip in a few bucks to buy Zaph a pair of these drivers so that he designs a pair of speakers around them - which we all know full well that he inevitably will. If 14 people (13 other people than myself) all chip in $5, we'll be getting for our $5 a set of speaker plans that are better than anything we'd be likely to come up with on our own, and that likely use simpler crossovers to boot. |

That is assuming he wants to do a design in the first place, and i was under the impression he doesn't like posting designs on discontinued drivers.

The manufacturer posts their recomended cross over here:
http://www.ascendantaudio.com/Arbite...0schematic.pdf Why would you want to redo it? Just a question, not a flame....

I figure that odds are he'll design some speakers if we ship him the woofers for free. Quote:
Because John Krutke has a well-deserved rep for designing awesome speakers. |

A few things....
AA needs to issue a definitive statement about whether or not they still sell the drivers, to clear up confusion. Just because they haven't bothered to take down the product page for the drivers isn't a sign of anything. Zaph has been pretty clear in his statements about why he's reluctant to do a design with non-mainstream, small vendor drivers. The other thing is, Zaph doesn't do public designs by request. I think that's implicit in his having the consulting page linked from his FAQ. Even if he did, there is a huge amount of work that goes into each of his designs -- e.g. the Waveguide TMM page implies that he spent a month listening to the minimalist crossover before deciding to do the perfectionist one -- and he's said publicly that he has a lot on his plate already in terms of projects. I just don't think what you're proposing is realistic. |
