Us oldies know ours salts' worth don't we?

I must say I'm a bit at odds with a unilateral decision like that...after all what harm did these counters do?

And a bit of well deserved status for all the hard work for that matter?

We're back to communism I reckon.

I haven't really been around as long as others, but I am not that disappointed with the lack of titles. I have always liked them, but if having them causes people to make many pointless posts just to raise their title to enlightened, then they [the titles] are counter-productive to the forum...

I wouldn't exactly call it communism. I feel that the moderators are currently doing a great job, considering the wants of everyone on the forum. I certainly prefer the current running of this place over total anarchy. I have great faith in Peter, Dave and other moderators to keep this place going the way it should.

The rankings are still there. I definately think that they should stay, but I don't think that the enlightened title is really needed. I achieved it, and don't feel enlightened in anyway. I just put into the forum what I expect to get out of it. I have greatly enjoyed my past year posting and reading others posts here. I have learned a lot.

Guess we'll always have exceptions to the rules but when the rules are bent to accomodate exceptions I start to wonder.

Yeah..but isn't it the task of a moderator to keep chaotic posts under control?
I'm the last person to tell anyone how to act but in a restricted community some measures are a necessary evil.

Either we adapt self-government or we accept moderation.
I doubt many of us are mature enough to live by the former though.

I have nothing against any moderator in person or in function, on the contrary they all deserve a warm round of applause.

But vearing from the too strict to the too tolerant is dangerous.
If you followed the forum closely over the past three months you will agree changes have been quite dramatic and 90% of them for the better.

The rankings are still there. I definately think that they should stay, but I don't think that the enlightened title is really needed. I achieved it, and don't feel enlightened in anyway.

I don't see the rankings now...more importantly your ranking should give you the feeling of a heightened responsibility towards the community.
It means you are seen by the others in a certain way...a bit as a good boyscout I think.
Always prepared to lend a helping hand?
To give both human advise as well as have technical knowledge?

Personally I try to do a bit of moderating myself and as with all things it has to be done with moderation.

I have learned a lot

So did I and no doubt countless others,both technically and socially.
Why not keep it that way?

We are all guilty of less than infinite SNR, but the likes of Halojoy take the cake, and now the rules are bent to accomodate him.
That just does not make sense to me.
IMO better to terminate the offender than make all of us suffer.

Frank, congrats on the 2000 posts, and too bad about losing the 'Enlightened' moniker - I suppose that means that we are all just a bunch of 'has been' members now.
