I don't honestly know the answer to this question.
I would like to run two sets of 8 ohm speakers (DIY and Bost. Acoustics), off one Adcom GTP-400 preamp, with two different amps (chipamp.com LM3886 and Sonic Impact T-Amp). The preamp only has one set of RCA outputs. Can I split the RCA jack to send the signal to both amps with something like this: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=240-129 The obvious answer to this question is "get a new preamp" but I'm on a budget, as the selection of components would suggest. Thanks |

That should work, but...
If you're not using the tape function, you can plug one of the amps into the "Tape Out" jack. |

If the tape-out is no option I would use the Y-splitter.. but I would use female to two male rca plugs... you probably won't reach enough distance with the splitter, with this one you can add an interlink and choose the needed distance yourself:

Or get this one if all the connections are too distant (offcourse with two interlinks...):

is not always possible with best result. In this case it depends on how heavy load those 2 are together. A bit heavy load is one amplifier with <=10kOhm input impedance. If BOTH amplifiers are easy load ( maybe >=22 kohm ) than CD-player output may drive 2 amps nicely. For a PreAmp (line amplifier) is not often any problem to drive 2 amplifiers inputs. Even if both are 10 kohm impedance input, it will be a load = 5 kohm. And this is okay for most good preamplifiers. As told, this will a good and simple solution: If you can, check out the input impedance of those two amplifiers. And see what you find. lineup
