Nelson, you are famous in Sweden now. Big article in High Fidelity about active accustic control. This is an old forgotten thing which Nelson was behind.

BTW: Is there is newer picture of you??? Maybe you can win "The Ugly Face Contest"?

I got the High fidelity today.
So I also read about the "room sound correction".
That photo is from 1988.
He might be 14 years older and even uglier now. :D

But you name the things he hasn't been involved in.
He sure is a special man, to rise ideas ....
-----------------------------------------------------

As he use to say, when some put a question mark
before one of his ideas:
"So you don't like my idea?
I got plenty of more!"
------------------------------------------------------------
 See also thread: "100.000 posts - A jubilee"
AudioFreak says the Nelson was the poster
of the 100.000th post. Congratulations!

I quote myself in that thread:
Nelson won the "100.000th post contest".

What could be more fair?
Congratulations Nelson!
(even if you do not write those Haikkus any more to honor me, gromanswe)
-------------------------

I took me some time to go back to those first days
of diyAudio.com.
The days before Nelson Pass!
I read those old threads - when there was only one Forum.
No Everything Else or Loudspeakers or Pass.

Suddenly one day, as two guys discussed some modifications
to an amplifier made by Pass,
they get an answering post from Mister Nelson Pass himself!

They get somewhat of a shock. Start feeling guilty
about publishing/changing/using his circuit designs.
Nelson doesn't mind.
He is interested in, if these guys can make his circuit even better.
The guys spend several posts just thanking the Master... LOL
--------------------------------

Well, those were the days, when the forum was young.
This site of Jason, would certainly not be as successful
without this special member joining the Forum.
A man called Nelson Pass.

Now, it is like this:
Both the Forum and Pass Labs benefits.
The name Pass wouldn't be what it is today
without all the DIY-selvers - speading the word.
You can see it as FREE advertising, if you like.
-----------------------------------------------------------

That is what me, gromanswe/halojoy, has reached
as my conclusion.

halo - 510 posts per month, makes 6.000 per yeara

History of DIYaudio.com

Here is the thread, where Pass first make an Entry
at this Forum.
It can easily be found by "search for all posts" by this user.
And then select the "Last" page, and at the bottom of that page is the member's first post ever.

Nelson Pass makes a Surprising Entry!

Nelson comes in on Page 2, after Petter and the others have discussed the circuit for awhile.
Petter: Meci line filters
Got the line filters today. Very very nice and highly recommended. Beware though, they were physically larger than I had imagined.

Another good thing is that they had flat stud-mounts and so testing forward/backwards direction is simple and would not involve soldering.

The ground did not have a series inductor. I don't have grounded outlets in my living room, so this may be a mute point -- but still a fair thing to point out. I recommend a thermistor in that position as a minium, but would normally use a small inductor on component side if connected.

Still waiting for thermal washers.

Detail design almost completed. Due to time constraints, I am considering getting a friend to built it.

I am also considering making teflon based PCB's to simplify construction.

Nelson Pass: :) X1000 backengineered here
Very nice job, I am flattered.

The X1000 actually has 80 output devices per channel,
not 16, and the input devices (IRF610)are also
cascoded to keep the dissipation down on them.
---------------------------------------------------------

doktor: :att'n: wow
Wow you never really know who is watching or reading as it is!
----------------------------------------------------------

Petter: Wow indeed!
A message from the Master -- very nice indeed.

NP is the only designer I have heard of who would respond positively to something like this. Most designers are "closed" and operate in the twilight zone of audio crap/hype. Not so with NP.

So this reinforces my impression that if you need to purchase excellent audio gear, you could do worse than picking up a piece of Pass gear.

BTW: This is an X100 ...
---------------------------------------------------------------

GRollins was also around in those early days.
He also had several posts in this  historic thread.

;) Real interesting reading! ;)

Hi Audiofreak and Halojoy,

You are absolutely correct, and I did misread the dates.

I am getting old, and as I have said before, it is a good job my hearing isn't deteriorating as fast as my brain.

My excuse is that it was nearly one o'clock in the morning when I posted, and my tired old eyes are not working too well!

You don't think Lord Nelson will make me 'walk the plank' on the Victory, Do you? :ashamed:

Regards,

Hi,

Not to worry Bob,Nelson has a great personality:cool:

Cheers,;)

No wonder I misread the date of the Lord's first post. I later saw it was actually 2 AM (not 1 AM, as I said in my later humble post), when I committed the faux pas. :ashamed:

I was so tired, I couldn't even see my watch properly, but it must show my enthusiasm for the Forum!

Anyway, I was cross with Nelson as he told me in another post that he will be using coupling caps in the 'updates' to the SOZ circuits which will be published soon, the wicked, wicked man! :grumpy:

And with all those whiskers, you have to admit that he does look like a Jolly Jack Tar! :Pirate:

(If I was h_l_j_y, I would probably have said it was all a deliberate ploy to up my postings-count!)

I cannot stand "keel-hauling" though, Frank, it makes such an awful mess of my hair.
Having tried both (several times!), I much prefer to be 'hanged' as it so much more dignified! :boggled:

Regards,
