Ok, I wouldn't consider myself ignorant, but I keep reading of DAC this and DAC that, and I wonder, what is a "DAC"?
I guess D is for "digital". Maybe I've been in an analogue world too long...?

It is short for digital to analog converter... basicaly it converts 0's and 1's to voltages...

DAC
Digital to Analog Converter - converts, decodes digital data description of sounds from CD and DVD into analog electrical signals, that can be used feed to sound reproducers like speakers in normal speaker electrical currents are converted into physical, mechanical movements using the electro magnetic force of coils so are the air pressure changes hopefully in accordance with the electrical power in audio amplifier output and we can hear these air pressure changes with our sensors for this = ears and we call them sound lineup

I love silly questions, they're the best ones.
So it turns out you knew what a DAC was all a long and you've heard plenty of them. Surprise!

Thanks all, and especially to Mr lineup. I couldn't have written a better overview of how we experience digital to analogue conversion and beyond...
I'll never look at a CD player in the same light again
