Hi all,
In parts of the house the carpets are being stained green where power lines run near. The most notable incident is the one shown on the attached picture that shows just one pin hole of a 13amp socket (pic of socket was to large to upload). The slime is now progressing round the house to many other sockets and the one were I connect the HiFi. Looks like copper sulphide created by electrolytic action of some sort. Does anyone know what the cause is and how to put an end to it? Thanks.

Rising damp, and by the look of that socket, you have old wiring as well. Get a decent builder or surveyor in to assess the problem properly.
