I think my headphones just got fried!

Hi,

I was listening to my Sennheiser HD 595 headphones today and left them plugged into my computer for about an hour with the volume turned all the way down. When I came back to them, the right channel was clearly louder than the left. I played with the cable (Sennheisers are notorious for bad cabling) and plugged them into my CD player to rule out my computer as the culprit. Same deal. I measured the DC resistance of both channels, and they are equal at 50 ohms. Finally, I did frequency sweep and white noise tests by ear, and confirmed that the left channel has no bass below 150Hz or so and a large, wide hole in the midrange. What could've happened?

Did you try flipping the headphones around to rule out differences between your ears? No idea what happened though.

I did try flipping them around, and the difference was still obvious.

Sorry for double posting, but I just put in a service call and will send them out today or tomorrow to a repair center. Does anyone know how long it takes for Sennheiser to repair headphones?

I would check the output from your computer for dc leak. I blew 2 pairs of earphones from running them out of my laptop before I realized to check the output.

Thanks for the tip, dietcoke. I'll definitely check that out and put a cap into the signal if I find it.
