Don't think this has been asked in a while. Are there are any surplus shops left in NYC? Are there any within driving distance?

You wish my friend, they're all gone many moons ago. Remeber
Canal Street? It was the paradise for the diy guys, surplus galore now only shops with stupid gadgets, fake watches, fake parfums and cologne, you name it. I still remember my going to Canal St. every saturday to explore the surplus shops, it was a world of parts for peanuts....

Thats what I found two years ago- after being told by my father of the wonders of canal street as he remembered it. I found one shop that was selling refurb stereos and george foreman grills and the like, and all they had was a couple cardboard boxes with some, reject no doubt, flybacks and pcb assemblies. Very sad.
