Question Soundblaster Extigy

Is it possible to use a Soundblaster Extigy with "normal" speakers? I'm not too sure about the technique behind that thing, but because of its small size and optical input, it would be ideal for my use (hooking up a DVD and Xbox360). But I want to use my old, installed speakers which are connected to a very cheap DVD/5.1 combo unit via 6 twoline coppercables.

Check out this picture of the back of the unit (the three jacks at its left are LR, rearLR and Center/Sub):

Also check out this table of its features:

Could I just solder those cables to the unit and I'd be done for? Or wont that work at all?

Just took another close look. The satellite speakers use 60W. I can't quite believe that the Extigy will be able to handle that. :/ Or does it?

Is there an cheap alternative? I just want to use my old speaker setup with a 5.1 optical output cable coming from my DVD/Xbox360.

Hi willywilly!
The Creative speakers shown are active (w/ built-in power amplifiers)
The Extigy acts like a pre-amp.

Mhm, so they would need extra power from somewhere. Is it possible to add that power with some cheap device? E.g. an active subwoofer?

Or could you recommend a cheap amplifier that could distribute a 5.1 optical signal amongst my 60W speakers? I don't really need fancy stuff like dozens of in/out jacks. :/

You need a power amp for each of Your speakers
(An active sub has already one built in)
