Wink Quality of Mp3 Players !

Hi people !

I know mp3 never will have a real good sound quality, but daily we that enjoy music, mp3s are a real good thing !

I had three mp3s, one Ipod Mini 6Gb, a Foston 256Mb, and now my Cell Phone, Samsung D500 80Mb...

The iPod (that died...) had tight bass and fast treble, not that good in medium response, like voice. Hadn't a good room, the sound wasn't spaced...

The foston was horrible, oh my god, what treble was that? Hadn't any definition, voice was compressed, bass was realy far... Horrible, horrible !!

And now, my celphone, I wasn't hoping a good sound, but I was wrong ! Today I connected the phone out on a stereo 3886 based amp with a pair JBL E60 (as I did with other ones), and it have much spaced sound, realy nice to listen, fast and definied treble, and at the same time, smooth. Bass isn't that good too, but it's far from bad...

I ask you to put your players here, and impressions with the sound ! I'm very curious about Creative ZEN, because my iPod was gone, so I need buy another player, and certainly it will not be from Apple...

Waiting Feedback

Thaaanks !!

My little cousin got an iPod last X-mas and I set it up for her with some music, etc.
I sat around and gave it a listen, not too bad really, even with the crummy stock earbuds..I plugged in my (cheapish) Panasonic headphones and it actually sounded quite good!
I never did connect it to the tube amps to listen though.

It may not be high-end-hifi,but for a pocket sized player, the iPod sounds pretty decent, better than alot of portable CD-playes i've heard.

I use my ipod for system check 8 times a week at the show I run here in nyc. As long as the encoding is either loseless or mp3 pro, it's pretty close to cd quality. I think the ipod sounds better than my old sony portable cd player- when I was still carrying around cd's.

I encode all my music in the apple "lossless" format. Although I can't speak towards the mathmatical truth of it being truely lossless, it sounds pretty good.

...forgot to add. I can certainly hear a difference between the default encoding and "lossless" so something is going on for sure.

Heh, it's been a long time since digital music technology class... As I remember it's not an AAC. It's closer to FLAC or shorten. Apple came out with thier lossless codec in 2004 after I was finished with school so I'm not as up on it. I do know that it has the same file extention as to be compatible but I think it uses a different set of rules for predicting.
