every one rises to his/her own level of incompedence

those that are 'honest', just admit they know nothing about the subject

those that do not, may still pretend to know ,and/ or try to control

a situation or person.

A general question to all:

Are there audio topics (specific to circuit design) that you believe could be used as PhD research and/or the subject of a dissertation?

I told a potential advisor of mine about my interest in audio, and he told me that designing a circuit or circuit idea would be a tough sell as a dissertation topic for school. Any ideas about an audio circuit idea that merrits attention?

Let me be blunt here. If you need to come to an amateur hi fi forum to ask this question you ought not start.

I suggest you contact a university that has a good graduate program in acoustics or psycho-acoustics and transfer.

"competent committee" IS an oxymoron though.

Not when it comes to a Ph. D. dissertation. Clearly you've not not been involved in this kind of activity.
