Default Determining the SPL Response from a Driver !

Hi !!!

I have some drivers, including ones from my car, and I realy want to know the response curve (spl / Hz) from these drivers. Is it possible using a PC ? I have electret microphone on it... But if it's not suitable, I can buy other mic...

How people usualy measure the response from drivers?

Thanks a lot !

First and formost, you are going to need a dead accurate calibrated microphone having a frequency response flat within +/- 1db over a wide bandwidth (typically 5Hz to 30kHz). Most sound level calibrations that I have participated in, used a laptop computer running some sort of TEF software. I would do a Google/Yahoo search using the keywords "TEF" for the software and "Earthworks" for the brand of microphone mentioned earlier. BE PREPARED FOR STICKER SHOCK. If you are just looking for ballpark measurements, Radio Shack used to sell a decent hand-held, all-in-one SPL meter in the $80 to $100 range.

There are affordable measurement microphones like Behringer ECM8000, alotugh you need some kind of phantom-power preamplifier in order to connect it to a PC.

Also, there are thousands of software packages that will produce amplitude versus frequency plots, some of them free.
