Here in the Netherlands, the former (only) national Telecom provider KPN, offers a free internet service for modem users.
You just call a fixed telephone number, username is kpn, no password and of you go. The rates are a tad better than local calls. Is there something similar in the UK, or better Aberdeen/Scotland ? I'm building a computer for my Scottish mother in law who lives in Aberdeen and bringing it over in May. Her current computer has failed, but she was paying (sick) for a modem dial up connection, but of course all info is gone; she can't give me any info (provider, number, account info). Would be great to get her up and running quickly when I get there. ADSL is not needed yet, she just surfes a bit. Thanks.

Maybe NetZero, if not, you might be out of luck, or maybe one of these :

Thanks a lot Antoine
Seems there are a few potentials in the list. Good idea, I'll bring my USB wifi stick which has provided me with "backup" ISP before

I was with Freeserve when I had dialup, so you have a recommendation from me for that one.

Hi,
join Bank of Scotland. Then you can use their bosinternet.com for free. They charge for telephone helpdesk @50p/min. You pay line call charge to your phone provider.
