I need a circuit or a technique for detecting if an electret mic or dynamic mic is connected to the amp input to make appropriate gain adjustments. I thought about sensing the voltage and using comparators to control switches across gain resistors. Any ideas?

The outputs from microphones tend to be fairly similar, and the normal input controls do all that's required. What are you trying to do?.
