Once upon a time (well 1980s actually) I could buy a cheap ticket to San Francisco, rent a car and spend the next week trolling around the bay area at any number of wonderful perveyors of junkus electronicus. Some names I remember were Mike Quinns, Haltek, Halted, Sharon Industries, ACE etc etc - the list just went on and on. Last time I went there they all had either dried up or become seriously infested with PC crap. Is it a lost cause or have some new goodies sprung up elsewhere ?. The US is still diligently warring so one would assume that their mil surplus must go SOMEWHERE...

Unless Google has different search modes down there, enter "surplus electronics" It took it .11 seconds to find 2.7 million responses. All that wonderful WW2 stuff is pretty well gone. ANother interesting site might be Fair Radio Sales.
