I’ve done this same thing (trick) deliberately to others, many times.
When they come with a ‘great’ new cable for signal or power for instance, I put them in a chair, go ‘change’ things behind the rack, come sit next to them and let them celebrate and point to me the obvious differences in sound.
If they are too exaggerated though, I don’t tell them the truth afterwards, I’m not so evil ;-))
