i need some simple advice. i'm building a projector with a built in dvd player. i'm basically hardwiring everything to a single three prong plug. my problem is: the dvd player is two pronged, so i've only got hot and neutral. everything else is grounded to the earth ground. so, is it neccessary to earth ground the dvd player, and if so, how do i go about doing that? any help is appreciated.

Hi,
US power is very definately different from UK power so you should get corroboration. A two prong input plug indicates a double insulated mains product. This is confirmed by the double square label on the info panel. A double insulated product does not need an earth connection AND an earth connection must not be added. Conventional RCA output connectors are not connected back to mains earth and thus comply with this requirement.

What he said. Wire it up the right way with the two wires, and don't worry about the absent third.
That is, unless you are modifying the chassis... double insulation only goes so far. If (potentially live) metal parts will be exposed during normal operation, you might have to ask again...
