Exclamation Do not use Sony's DRM rootkit uninstaller!

Do not use Sony's DRM rootkit uninstaller

It is so severely bad I thought it warranted another thread.

Due to a serious design flaw, the CodeSupport component allows any web site you visit to download and run software on your computer. A malicious web site author can write an evil program, package up that program appropriately, put the packaged code at some URL, and then write a web page that causes CodeSupport to download and run code from that URL. If you visit that web page with Internet Explorer, and you have previously performed at least step 2 of Sony’s uninstall process, then the evil program will be downloaded, installed, and run on your computer, immediately and automatically. Your goose will be cooked.

Although why anyone would want to use Internet Explorer when there's Firefox is beyond me.

Do yourself a favour - download and use it today.

What gets me is why anyone would have anything to do with sony these days.

With all their drm crud and so on I'm suprised they haven't been shot for anti-competitive behaviour for a start.

Wait till they come out with the new SONY warranty enforcement chip for hardware.

warranty expires, so does your hardware unless you buy a new "licence" to use it for another x years.

oops i hope sonys not reading this and getting good ideas,
YES SONY DO IT it will make you lots of loyal customers! we will alll love you.

p.s i think you NEED to use internet explorer to "uninstall" the sony rootkit. so firefox is no help for the helpless person who heard about the rootkit on CNN or something.
