I went into several music stores and did not find a single DVD-Audio disc on display. Very few SACD's also.
What's the current position ? Are they dying formats or dead already? cheers.

Format war all over again. Once there is a winner and one dies, then it probably will be supported.
At this stage I imagine it's a microscopic market compared to CD's and then there's the onslaught of MP3 which has easy distribution.

Dead, I would have thought. Let's face it, DVD is on the way out and the industry is gearing up for Blueray or HDDVD, so why produce anything for a tiny audio niche market, when 99.9% of the audience is happy with CDs or MP3s

So I guess for all ,over 50 guys , 192Khz sampling and high speed analogue tape like sound , its all over. Good news is that ( if and ) when they are reincarnated and back , 192Khz would be mature and doing well --- isn't it ?
Cheers.

There are plenty of SACD and DVD-A titles out there, but it takes a little bit of effort to get them. If they're not available at your corner store, so what? If you like DVD-A, support it. You're on the internet, there's no excuse.
The average consumer just doesn't care about sound quality, so the big chains aren't going to stock products that don't sell. The only way these formats will survive is if people actually buy music online. I personally like SACD. When they put out good titles, I buy them. Simple as that. But if no one buys them, the hi-rez formats will die. Luckily, my favorite hi-rez format has Sony behind it, and hopefully they'll continue to promote it. Here's to hoping that high resolution video will get people into good sounding audio. HA!

Wasn't Sony switching over to sell only CD/SACD hybrids, instead of maintaining two formats separately? I don't know what happened with that though, since I haven't bought any Sony discs for a long time.

I think you're right. When you look at it, selling SACD only discs is monumentally stupid. If you have an SACD only disc, you can't load the music in your MP3 player, use it in your car, etc. I love my iPod. SACD only discs? I won't buy 'em.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27349 if that is really true, then sony is guilty of invading privacy and willlful destruction of private property. Can only say after reading this: 1. hope enough get together to file a class action suit. 2, Boykott sony products. |

Follow up commentary.
This software walks like a duck/malware. This software quacks like a duck. This software smells like you stepped on a duck. It meets every definition of malware including being hard to detect and very hard to remove. Whether or not it is a security threat and/or degrades performance (it does, that much more overhead) these are huge red flags. The Sony update that is claimed to remove it, does not infact remove it. |
