never done a diy project, but want to learn

i've been looking for some simple diy instructions online. i've never tried any diy projects before, but all this reading about the sonic impact has made me want to give it a try.

any suggestions on where i can get simple instructions on where to begin with this hobby?

i figured i'd start with simple (?) things like switching the connectors...and see where that leads me.
