I am making speaker wire and i figure if I twist 2 lengths of 20AWG solid wire I will get one "double-strand" 15 AWG wire..right?
I'm not sure about this...but I seem to remember that's how it worked from a chart I read once... |

You have the right general idea, but it's 3 gauge sizes when you double the cross-section, not 5, so two strands of 20-gauge in parallel would be the equivalent of 17-gauge.
