Default basic knowledge

Hello!

1.)Why resonance "destroy" the sound(acustic reasons)?
2.)Can be very non-linear(cheap) speaker driven as good as very linear speaker with properly filter or other device(motional feedback...)

Questions are totally n00bby,but for properly understanding I must know this-not just listen und build

Dear Grandma,

Ok, I'll see if I can decifer your questions and you can tell me if I got it correct. I am no expert and some of my answers might not be bang on but no-one else has tried yet so I will.

I think you are talking about a woofer system.

1 Resonance doesn't destroy sound. It colours it. You don't want the cabinet, room or furnishing vibrating because of the bass. It adds to and changes the sound. You only want the sound from the speakers. This is why you brace your cabinet very well, isolate your woofer from the floor and hang curtains everywhere to stop the sound from "bouncing" around the room.

2. The linearity of the speaker. You seem to understand this. You can think of it as cone "wobble" for now. Anything within the construction of the driver that causes it be non-linear can't really be filtered out if I remember correctly. I believe the non-linearity increases as the frequency drops. If you think your drivers are non-linear then don't play them as loud.

Why not tell us what you are trying to build and others might be able to help you more.

Cal

Oh and I believe your Neil Armstrong quote ineeds updating.

I believe he said
"One small step for man. One giant leap for mankind"

He was supposed to say: "One small step for a man... but he left out the "a" when the pressure was on.

Actually ... he wasn't supposed to say anything, he said that on his own is my understanding. And the "a" was kind of run together and got missed on the low quality recording; if you ask the man, he'd tell you he used the "a".

As for the subject, I heard someone once tried laser feedback to control the cone. Worked well, but was also too impractical... although I've got to wonder how that is possible with all the thousands of dollars throwing around in this gullible industry.

Mhm, the point in "vibrating"...?Look at the pic in you will see big resonance.Human can detect freqs only 3db down.....So the listening response dramaticly falls(pic below).Every body says:You must get -- flat responese--,you must get flat response!Just of vibrating?Resonance resoult is usualy boomy bass.

I wonder if Mr Gorsky actually ever got what he was looking for. After all the kid did walk on the moon.
