Default Zen and the art of old time Diy

I found this old book today. I acquired it in the mid seventies but can’t remember where.
Basically it’s the predecessor of Elektuur.
Dutch people here will perhaps recognize the name “De Muiderkring”

First project is a crystal radio build on chassis.
Second one too but made to be portable.
Zen, Zenner, Zenst…
All text is in Dutch and no, I won’t translate.
I (low res.) scanned the first few pages to give you an impression of how things where long ago and what Diyers did at that time.
The book continues with a few tube radios, two and three tubes projects, long wave, short wave, no FM in those days and even a complete Diy turntable project, a tutorial how to wind your own transformers, tips on soldering and build your own antenna.
It’s fun to have it and look at the way things were done back in 1948.
If anyone would be interested in old Diy radio and other projects I’ll gladly scan some more ( High res.) of this amazing book.
I’ll probably smear it out in a few threads called “Seven Old Pieces”

/Hugo

Hi Hugo,

nice! Would be a bit difficult to get "zinkglans", "zinkiet" or "koperpyriet" though

Well, let me try to translate a nice part of the game.
I remember Nelson saying he stopped fabricating his own transistors but in those days they really made their own diodes.

Here goes:

The crystal detector can be bought ready made but can be fabricated very easily with a piece of “loodglans, zinkiet and/or koperpyriet” (note: can’t translate that, must be some kind of lead, zinc or copper thing. That would be the anode.)
As “aftaster” (note: that would be the cathode) we use a piece of silver wire, steal wire or the carbon (graphite) of a pencil.

But then again, that were the post war days.

Jam:
Me too, but it never worked.

/Hugo
