Some Help with choosing an Audio Project

Hey all,

I am an electronics student and was just wondering if any of you could reccomend a good/low budget project that I can build for one of my classes.

I was thinking of doing a VU meter and maybee even a PPM too, but fear this might be too basic for my course. I also don't know if the schematics availible on the net are fully functional devices and have been tested to work.

If you have any ideas, or could refer me to anything you may have built in the past, i would greatly appriciate it. The more cool the project the better because i have to present it infront of my class.
