I have an old TV that does not have an audio out and I would like to build one. Messing around with the TV, I blew the speaker so now I really need it. Right now there are two wires running from the main board to a (blown) 16 ohm speaker. I blew it by connecting speaker wire to each of these and touching them to rca plugs connected to my reciever. After doing this I got the idea that the rca jacks are for left and right channel and the wires are positive and negative so these are probably completely different. What do I need to do to make these outputs.
Also, I may want to try to put in new speakers. Radio shack has 8-ohm speakers, can a just connect these in parallel to get 16-ohm resistance (I'm just getting that out of physics class). |

You wire the 8's in series for 16ohm.
Put a series 10K resistor / 1K resistor in parralel with the speaker output and tap off the line output from the 1k resistor. Make sure the 1K resistor is connected to the ground of the loudspeaker output, the 10 K to the actual speaker output. The only problem with this arrangement is you can't turn off your TV speakers unless you wire the sockets like a headphone output, (use 3.5mm jack plug /socket) switching off the speakers when its used. |
