Speakers Causing Amps to Blow?

I aquired a set of Jensen JP 1200 speakers. I hooked them up to a JVC shelf model system, i.e. tuner, amp, cassette and cd player all in one, it sounded great for about 2 minutes, then nothing, no sound. I bought a used Pioneer amp (70 watts per channel), and a tuner, hooked up the Jensens, sounded great for about 2 minutes, then poof, gone, no sound. Any suggestions?

The featurelist to these speakers say:

* Recommended Amp Power: 300 watts

Maybe you shouldn't connect PA-Speakers to some very "simple"
Amps...

I believe, these speakers have a very reactive load, so you might
need an amp with big current-capabilities. Your mentioned amps
really cant. These are mostly cheap chipamps for a normal 8ohm-load.
I believe your amps simply overheated and the shortcircuitprotection
can't really protect against big inductive loads.
