Default Wire wound pots as volume control ????

What do people feel about using wire wound pots as volume controls ?
I aquired a 100K one at the weekend for the princely sum of 1.00 (along with a heater transformer for 1.00).

Out of curiousity. Can you measure the inductance?

That would be the figure that tells you if its ok or not.

Everything is possible....to do the impossible just takes a little while longer.

I could try putting a test tone through it and hooking it up to a scope. I have a friend with the facilities for such a job. I will sujest it to him.

Bear in mind that the resolution is finite; well of course it's not infinite on other types, but it feels that way
Also, it'll have a linear law.

Shunting it should make it behave as a log pot (don't know exactly how but should be easy to sort out).
It has a lot more resolution than the Alps Stepped attenuator I am using on my Bride of Zen, so thats not really an issue.

The question is has anyone actually got any first hand impressions to impart.
