X, Carlos, the destroyer,

You are lucky that no body ask you for detail/data/information to support your claim of stats yet. Are they facts? How did you measure them result to conclude? Why do you think you can represent the entire mixed bag of Brazil population to tell others who they are? You know why I am asking for sure, no amigo?

Chris,

Your doubts about the numbers are well founded. The description above is full of inaccuracies, misinformation and misinterpretation of facts. Since I cannot copy and paste to address each topic, let me exemplify.

1) From post #2, about land extension, the claims are wrong. Here is the information obtained from the CIA web site

Brazil land: 8,456,510 sq km (http://cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/br.html)

USA land: 9,158,960 sq km (http://cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/us.html)

If we consider only the contiguous land mass and exclude Alaska, then Brazil is bigger. But Canada and Mexico have to stay out.

2) From post #5, about personal income, Mr. Megulhao says:

“…10 percent of our people stay with the 75 of all we produce related to money…”

If the intention was to discuss the imbalance in the distribution of wealth among the population, that information is meaningless. From Brazil’s IRS’s counterpart government organ, the Receita Federal’s web site, dated April 21, 2004, it says that 8.6 million tax forms have been filed and they still expect 9.5 million to file in the coming days. (http://www.receita.fazenda.gov.br/Imprensa/Notas/2004/abril/20042004a.htm)

That means 18.1 million people, or less than 10% of the estimated population, hold regular jobs and earn enough money to file a tax return form. That only proves how poor the country is, nothing else.

I don’t mean to pick on Mr. Mergulhao, but I was born and raised in Brazil and misrepresenting facts about the country is a disservice to its natives. I also don’t want anybody speaking on my behalf. Please consider the above as personal opinions and not facts.
