Optima battery leaked!
I went to disconnect my battery today to work on the stereo, when I found a corroded positive terminal of the side post (GM car). As it is now, I'm using the top post positive to feed the stereo. I looked and discoverd corrosion on the positive terminal. Keep in mind I'm using an Optima Yellow Top.
I thought optimas were not supposed to leak under any circumstances. Optimas are bragged not to leak even if the case is cracked.
I think it has to do with the damn GM side terminals. With those cables all going in odd directions putting stress on the terminals (they're closer together then the GM battery), they probbly are being tugged out.
I used a ton of baking soda and water to clean out the mess. I think the computer and wiring down there should be OK, the acid seemed to be contained within the battery tray. I took this little tub with baking soda and water and dunked the postive terminal in and in no time the entire thing was dark green and fizzing. Good lord.
So, tomorows project is to see if I can get any sort of warranty coverage for it, and I also intend to change the wiring from side terminal to top terminal. Should be pretty easy. Just going to change the ground wire (was going to do this anyway) and the power wire should be very easy as well.
Since my Optima is leaking, I guess its safe to assume I shouldnt use it anymore.
(I'm not haing a good nite). #1 I find out today this trade school I was trying to squeeze into is full and the next opening is July. #2 I was supposed to go to a strip club with a former female coworker tonite, but she backed out on me.
