I dug a toroidal inductor out of a mate's junk box the other day and found that it fitted my requirements perfectly. However, the marking on it aren't very informative and neither of us can figure out where it's from, except that it looks like a PC power supply part.
Here's a photo - the core is about the size of the hole in the middle of a CD: http://users.smuts.uct.ac.za/~mbrooker/choke.jpg The markings read: AIC1407 AUTIOU What I am using it to do is sense current in a 30A line. The inductor goes around the line then to an opamp and a logic circuit. I would appreciate it if anybody has any idea of where I could get such a thing. If anybody has any better ideas of a way of sensing a 30A current in a line without breaking the insulation then please share. I am building a set of 8 sensors to attach my tumble driers to the Internet, to complement this: https://www.smuts.uct.ac.za/laundry/monitor.html |
