I am no expert on paints - but when I asked a local paint dealer about the same thing he said that I better use auto primer and then auto paint ( these are NC based - nitro cellulose).
As far as the filler is concerned I am not sure . But the local filler we get here cannot be used. I use NC based putty used on cars. It works out well. Can't say if it will last very long. But on some MDF stands I made with NC primer and NC paint , there has been no problem. The stands are about 8 years old . Cheers.

Unless you wood working skills are ouststanding,
you will need to go : Sealer, filler, fine filler, primer, paint, laquer / clearcoat. At the primer stage I think only car primer is appropriate. sreten.

I'm assuming you are talking about MDF here. I'd have to disagree (for the first time!) with you there. I tried car primer on MDF and it just soaked it all up - I used LOADS. MDF primer is better, or you can mix a 50/50 solution of either (I can't remember which) PVA/primer or PVA/water then primer.

From the sound of it you used primer at the sealer stage.
So we do not disagree. sreten.

Ahh, when you wrote sealer I assumed you meant to seal the edges, like caulking.
