A CA-MXJ300 loads CDs but the spindle motor doesn't revolve, and I haven't been able to fimnd any service info. for this model. Haven't checked it in any detail as yet, but am wondering if anyone knows whether this is a 'stock fault' in this model. Could simply be a failed laser PU, I guess.
Is the cause of always playing at High Volume setting likely to be a firmware problem, and, if so, how can this be rectified? This problem is present on a JVC CA-MXJ530R, which I've been asked if I can repair.

Carry out basic fault finding;-
Does the laser go to TOC position when a disc is inserted?
Does the laser bob up and down, if yes, does it achieve focus etc.
Does turning the disc by hand make a squealing noise as the laser is focussed?
If no focus, possible laser issue. If focus but no spindle movement possible disc motor.
