Default For The Good or For The Bad?

Do the parameters (T/S) change much as a driver breaks in? I've built speakers and the bass sounded great. Very defined and tight. But over time it seems the bass gets "muddy" and loses definition. (NOT in all situations) Some builds actually become better with age..

Is there any way to judge where a driver is going to end up after it breaks in? This recently happened in my car also. Installed new drivers and things sounded excellent. after 6 months or so, it lost definition and got muddy..

What am I missing?
