Default Panasonic DVD-A115 Repair Help

Does anyone have a copy of the service manual for a Panasonic DVD-A115 DVD Player? My player has a problem where after playing a disk for 10-15min, the motor starts cycling (spins up-spins down) until after a while it just stops and displays STOP on display. I have seen info on the net about the optical pickup in this model series being defective but, not sure if it is the same problem. As far as I can tell, the laser pickup is working correctly because if I re-insert a disk after the unit does its stop thing, can see the laser fire and will detect the disk. As I do not have a schematic, I am not sure where to start troubleshooting. All the connections seem to check out and there does not appear to be any signs of dust contamination, etc... Seems to act like a motor or optical pickup temp/current sense problem. Any ideas, suggestions or schematic help is appreciated.

Unless you find out some more details, you're more than likely best off throwing it away and getting a new one. The problem will just keep getting worse, trust me I know. I have a RV30 model and it started out the way you describe, and it will evenutally get to the point that it'll stop playing and give you a spindle error message. You can look at the panasonic website and order a service manual for it, and even most parts, but you'll find it's cheaper to just buy a new one!

That's what I did, and you can bet it WASN'T another panasonic! (Which is a shame as I love their TV line!)

Schaef,
Thank you for the info. Bummer news as the player had a pretty good picture/sound and worked great for about 3 years. Do you still have the service manual for you RV30? I am wondering how close the boards/drive mechanisms are. Anyway, I agree on not throwing a lot of money at it. I just can't bring myself to tossing it until I had a go at repairing it. Also, did you ever find what was wrong with your unit? I read an article that said Panasonic was sued because of problems with the A110 series
Take care -ALBQ

I never picked up a service manual as I was too ****ed off when I found out that it was a known problem, and Panasonic wouldn't even acknowledge that they knew anything about it. It also didn't help that it had (of course) just come out of warranty. You can order the service manual from Panasonic, they're actually quite reasonable. (At least for their TVs they are)
