Default sound to light converter.

Hey, is there a simple circut that can be made by a noob to take say... a bass note and convert it to a light switch... that doesnt sound right.. um say when your drummer kicks the bass drum it turns the light off until the next kick or turns it off for a moment then on.. i'm thinking stage lights.. all the red, green.. you know.. any help or advice would be appreciated
