Default Cable Price Analysis

While looking over the master price list at the The Cable Company I wondered what the mean average and median prices were for the interconnect cables listed.

There were 196 1 meter pairs listed, which ranged in price from a low of $31.50 for the AudioQuest Sidewinder to a high of $12,800 for the Tara Labs Zero.

Of all 196 1 meter pairs, the mean average price was $970. The median price was $460.

Of the 148 priced at $1,000 or less, the mean averge price was $237. The median price was $300.

Of the 102 priced at $500 or less, the mean average price was $203. The median price was $195.

Of the 61 priced at $250 or less, the mean average price was $126. The median price was $111.

Of the 29 priced at $100 or less, the mean average was $76. The median price was $77.

Number of cables in price ranges in increments of $100 up to $1,000 and increments of $1,000 above that:

$0.00-$100: 29
$101-$200: 26
$201-$300: 19
$301-$400: 15
$401-$500: 13
$501-$600: 10
$601-$700: 8
$701-$800: 10
$801-$900: 6
$901-$1,000: 12
$1,001-$2,000: 26
$2,001-$3,000: 12
$3,001-$4,000: 3
$4,001-$5,000: 1
$5,001-$6,000: 2
$6,001-$7,000: 0
$7,001-$8,000: 2
$8,001-$9,000 1
$9,001-$10,000: 0
$10,001+: 1

FYI.

Default That Gives Me Good Information - Thanks.

Product quality and sound quality do not unfortunately correspond to pricing, however it looks like for maximum market penetration there are two price ranges $31.50-$200.00 and $1000-$2000.
10 ft speaker cables max at $30,750.00

I have no problem with cables causing different system sounds, but I do have problems with the pricings and the claims made - no arguments from me on these counts.
I really do wonder at how these 'manufacturers' come to some of the prices quoted.

Thinking of going into the cables business, Steve ?.

Good work, Eric.

Hehehe. Well, don't know that it's actually "free time." A couple months ago I got hold of some bad acid which caused me to take complete complete leave of my senses and decide to go into the cable business. So I'll chalk it up as "market research."

Let me guess, the one cable in the $10000+ segment is the
Nordost Valhalla Reference?

OK, yes I suppose cables are cheaper in the US.
The Nordost cables are currently on sale for $10000 here.
That's why I guessed on those.

I'd love to have a third column showing how many sets they sell in each price bin. Now THAT would be market research.
