Default Soudcard Vs High-end preamps (RSP-1666,...) ?

Hi!

Which soundcard could be as good as a good premap such as the rotel RSP 1066 : great DTS/AC-3 decoding and good analog outputs.
The M-Audio Revolution is good but can't be compared, so which better card?

Thanks for support.

My aim is to put HK signature power amp and to use my computer as a dvd, cd-player.

I dont have an answer for you but I kinda have the same problem. Well I actually want to feed the output of my computer into my rotel 870bx preamp. My audigy is Ok at best but I know that its not nearly the level of soundcard I need to match up to my rotel.

I asked around and some suggested the Midiman (m-audio) Audiophile 2496. Supposedly the Revolution 7.1 sounds the same but has 7.1 as opposed to straight stereo. Its cheaper too. The advantage of the 2496 is its recording capabilities and the fact that it accepts RCA on the back of the card instead of 1/8" headphone jack connections.

Anyway I'll let you know in a week when my card arrives.

I don't think this is easy. Went to great trouble to build an audio computer with purist card (Terratec 2496) and external signal routing.

In the end the noise (went to great trouble to reduce this) and cheap opamps and power supply etc mean that I only got mid-fi out of the thing.
