What system is this?

Hey people, in the picture below you will find little room setup, a picture I picked up some time ago and don't remember who's it is. Anyway they have some nice Sony speakers which I guess are hooked up to that silver Sony unit on the floor under the table, does anyone know what this unit is?

It looks nice and I think it may be like a multipurpose entertainment reciever... something I could use for MY room..

Anyhow, any ideals on what it is?

it is a sony micro system..
