Default DVD vs value

Hi everybody;

In the quest for better audio in the past few years I've completely fallen behind in the video department.

Having said that, my son will be getting married soon and we would like to get them a DVD player and would like to know if anyone on this forum could give advice/input as to what DVD ( single disc ) players for approx $500 are on the market that stand out in terms of performance ( audio & video wise ) vs cost. The $500 CDN isn't necessarily a fixed amount I would just like to know how much a person has to spend these days to get better quality without going overboard.

Her parents did get them an all in one DVD, CD and VHS player for Christmas ( $300 ) YUK!! Even his GF noticed a difference in the poor sound and video quality We ran it through my 32" Sony with the variable line out into a Bryston 4B. Needless to say, they took it back to the Future Shop for a refund. They want to apply that money ( plus I'll be adding money to that ) to get a better on without breaking the bank.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Doug

Default I suggest

that you skip the DVD-er and focus on

-some thermos flask for hot chocolate
-a good toaster (italian)
-a mixer
-some cookbooks

dvd is for later .... after they are settled I should say.

Default DVD

Thanks Joe;

I will definately look into those units. I haven't had much time to do the research on it, to busy building speakers It would be nice to find an audio/video shop that was set up so a person could AB machines with the same set up.

BTW Joe, is that a picture of you on your avitar? Back in the late 60's I lived in Oshawa for a couple of years. I worked with a guy who's favorite expression was " stay loose ". I never heard that expression again over the years until I got on this forum.
