Default Dynamic range expander

I've done some searching and it appears the only ones available are the DBX units from a few years (or decades?) ago. This is what I'm trying to accomplish- I like and do DJ work that involves club style dance music. Mainstream dance, to psy trance, to house, basically anything that has a good beat to it. I'm trying to get the "bass thump" of the recordings to really slam. I thought about using an expander for this, so it would put the peaks of the music above the original level. Expanding the "snare" hits wouldnt be bad either.

Anybody else do this or have any ideas? Headroom shouldnt be that much of a concern as I have a rather large (for my applications anyway) PA system and it should have plenty of power except for the highest of levels. In which case I'd compress.

What you are looking for is a DBX 120 Subharmonic synthesizer. Offered regularly on e-bay. I think Rane also makes something like this.
